F411 AIO vs SpeedyBee F405 — Which Micro FC Actually Survives Crashes

April 26, 2026 · Lee

I have killed more flight controllers than I care to count. Crash damage is one thing. Design flaws that kill the FC on a normal landing are another. Here is what I have learned about choosing a micro FC that actually lasts.

F411 AIO — The Integration Play

F411 AIO puts Bluejay + ELRS + VTX on one board. That means less wiring, less weight, fewer connectors to fail. For micro builds where every gram counts and solder time is precious, this is the right call.

Bluejay firmware gives you reliable motor output timing and good low-speed motor response. Combined with integrated ELRS, you have a clean signal path without external receivers eating up weight budget.

SpeedyBee F405 — The Proven Stack

SpeedyBee F405 V4 is 30x30 and needs an external VTX and receiver. More wiring, more connectors, more to go wrong in a crash. But it is also easier to troubleshoot because you can replace individual components.

Crash Survival — What Actually Matters

  • Connector quality: JST-SH connector pads vs soldered direct — soldered is more crash-resistant
  • Capacitor placement The Bluejay firmware guide covers ESC settings for both F411 and F405.: larger cap banks near the power input absorb crash impacts better
  • BEC rating: if you are running 6S, get an external BEC — the internal ones are spec-limited

My Take

For TinyWhoop/micro builds: F411 AIO. The integration is right for the form factor and the Bluejay firmware is solid.

For 5" freestyle: SpeedyBee F405 V4 stack — more repairable, proven platform.

Both are available pre-tested at fpvmotorco.com with 50% crash replacement.

Real talk: for most micro builds the F411 is enough. You do not need extra UARTs for a 3-inch cinewhoop. The F405 makes sense when you run multiple peripherals — GPS, external VTX, receiver, and a buzzer all at once. Pick the F411 for simplicity, the F405 for expandability.
