SpeedyBee F405 V4 Stack Setup — No-BS ESC + FC Configuration Guide
I get asked for my exact SpeedyBee F405 V4 stack settings in the group chat at least twice a week. Here is the full thing — not the defaults, not the marketing settings. What I actually run.
BLHeli_32 ESC Settings Pair this setup with a capacitor on your power leads.
Start with the basics. Motor timing: AUTO — let the ESC figure it out for your specific motor. Demag Compensation: MEDIUM — this handles the back-EMF spikes from sudden throttle cuts without being overly conservative. PWM Frequency: 48kHz for 5" props — clean signal without the high-pitched whine.
For 6S freestyle specifically: set your motor cutoff to soft cutoff, not hard cutoff. Hard cutoff on 6S creates a more aggressive back-EMF spike when the ESC cuts power. Soft cutoff ramps down smoothly and reduces the spike amplitude.
Betaflight FC Settings
- Dterm curve exponent: 0.7 (default is too low for 5" props on 6S, causes high-frequency oscillation)
- Anti-gravity gain: 3.5 (handles throttle dips without causing bob)
- Feedforward transition: 0.1 (smooth start to the punch)
- Motor output: 1000-2000 range, no idle steering on startup
The External BEC Fix
Before you do anything else with this stack on 6S: wire an external 5V UBEC rated for 30V+ input directly to battery positive and negative. Connect the output to your VTX and receiver. Do not use the FC's internal BEC for anything on 6S except the FC itself. This is the single most important step in this guide and the SpeedyBee listing does not tell you about it.
Filter Settings
If you are getting oscillation in the logs and not in flight feel: drop your gyro filter cutoff from 100Hz to 80Hz. The SpeedyBee F405 V4 gyro is slightly noisier than some higher-end boards, and the firmware defaults are tuned for a cleaner board. 80Hz is a safe floor for 5" freestyle.
For the Pre-Tested Stack from FPVMotorCo
The Insider Vetted SpeedyBee F405 V4 stacks are already BLHeli_32 flashed with these settings as a baseline. All you need to do is tune the PID loop for your motor/prop combination. The stack is thermal-tested at 6S full throttle before it ships — if it passed, the hardware is solid.
